No one enjoys being stuck in a hospital bed, away from home and family and friends, which is why we offer Hospital in the Home (HITH) services. HITH is a program where if suitable, you can receive and/or continue treatment from the comfort of your home rather than at hospital. Chemotherapy in the home, complex wound management and IV antibiotics are just some of the services that may be available to you through HITH.

HITH programs are available to members Australia-wide and focus on providing members with hospital-standard care and treatment in the comfort and privacy of their own home. Some of the benefits of Hospital in the Home can include:

  • Reduced time spent in hospital
  • Reduced risk of complication experiences in hospital like cross-infections
  • Faster recovery time
  • Increased comfort and privacy
  • Reduced burden on carers
  • Reduced rate of hospital readmission

Due to the nature of HITH, the criteria for eligibility works very differently to the other programs we offer at Phoenix Health. In some cases the hospital you had treatment at will organise and provide HITH for you, if that’s not available then we have providers we’ve partnered with to deliver HITH. Our partners are registered and clinically adept to provide the services you need. They are listed below.

Vitalis Health
Vitalis is passionate about empowering people to access hospital-standard care at home. By providing treatment in the comfort and privacy of their home, patients get greater control and choice while often also allowing them to recover better and faster than in hospital.

No one likes to be stuck in a hospital bed if it’s avoidable. HITH allows you to receive or continue your treatment from the comfort and privacy of your own home, cutting down travel between home and the hospital, so you can focus on your recovery.

Eligibility Step One: You’ve served your hospital waiting periods and your Phoenix Health hospital cover includes the clinical category for the treatment you will be receiving.

Eligibility Step Two: Your treating Doctor or Specialist considers HITH to be a suitable treatment option to aid in your recovery.

Tip: Make sure you check with your specialist if your treatment can be provided at home. Following surgery, check with the hospital discharge staff if any services can be provided in your home, like wound dressing, IV antibiotics, this will ensure you have all the services in place while recovering in the comfort of your own home.

HITH works a bit differently to our other Health Support Programs. HITH needs to be organised by your Doctor or Specialist prior to your hospital admission if HITH is going to be used instead or being admitted to hospital.

If you’ve already been admitted to hospital and had a procedure, then HITH needs to be organised by your Doctor or Specialist prior to discharge.

Make sure you speak to hospital staff before your discharge from hospital, or get in touch with us to chat about whether HITH is an option for you.
