Temporary Suspension due to Overseas Travel

Members may temporarily suspend their membership for the period they are travelling overseas.

A member must be overseas for a minimum of 3 weeks, and may suspend up to a maximum of 2 years at a time.

The suspension must be applied for through the Fund, prior to departure from Australia by completing an Overseas Suspension form, or phoning Member Services and completing the application over the phone. Members must re-activate their membership within 1 month of their return, by contacting the Fund and supplying proof of their travel in the form of e-tickets or boarding passes showing their exit from and entry back into Australia.

Where a Member fails to re-activate their membership within 1 month of their return, or suspension end date, their Membership may be terminated.

Suspension is available to Members who have held Financial Membership with Phoenix for 6 months or more, and must be paid up to and including their departure date.

Any days a Membership is suspended, do not count towards waiting periods.

Benefits are not claimable for the period the membership is suspended.

Temporary Suspension due to Financial Hardship

Phoenix offers Temporary Suspension of Membership to members who are experiencing genuine Financial Hardship.

Temporary Suspension of Membership due to Financial Hardship applications are assessed by the Fund on an individual basis for eligibility.

A Member must have held Financial Membership with the Fund for at least 2 years prior to being eligible for Financial Hardship Suspension, and the suspension period can be for a minimum of 1 month, up to a maximum period of 12 months.

After the suspension period has ended, the Membership will be automatically re-activated and contribution payments will re-commence from the re-activation date.

If at the end of the suspension period the Member cancels their policy, the Membership will be cancelled from the suspension start date.

Any days a Membership is suspended, do not count towards waiting periods.

Benefits are not claimable for the period the membership is suspended.
